ALL ABOARD

All Aboard operates charity shops for the benefit primarily of UK based Jewish Charities, via our chain of 17 charity shops in London and Manchester. Worthy causes such as residential care homes for the elderly, schools for children with disabilities, support for cancer patients and their families, educational projects to mention just a few, benefit from our charity shop trading.

All Aboard has a policy of not buying in any merchandise but relies on the amazingly generous donations from the community to stock its shops and are lucky to receive new goods from manufacturers, retailers and wholesalers, as well as second hand goods from people’s own homes. We have in over 23 years raised over £3 million for UK Jewish Charities.

All Aboard operate a ‘collection by appointment’ system. Our van is available from Sunday to Friday.

As well as donating goods to All Aboard, we also have many volunteering opportunities in our shops and office. Please contact us at Head Office on 020 8381 1717 or email collections@allaboardshops.com for more info or to arrange for a collection.

BEIT HALOCHEM UK

Beit Halochem UK Is a charity devoted to raising money for the Beit Halochem centres in Israel that provide lifelong support for the Israeli disabled soldiers and victims of terror.

Established in the wake of the War of Independence (1949), with the purpose of providing the 6,000 disabled soldiers with all their needs towards the long process of their rehabilitation. Today, more than 51,000 members are given a new lease of life at our facilities in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Haifa and Beer Sheva. The organisation applies the philosophy that the disabled should be cared for in an environment that is both congenial to them and to those around them. In keeping with this philosophy, Beit Halochem offers a variety of activities to occupy the family, grown-ups and children alike.

Beit Halochem UK recognises that the men and women of the Israel Defence Forces serve their country with courage and dedication. They are Israel’s first line of defence, a responsibility they face with inordinate bravery. The debt of gratitude that we in the greater Jewish world owe them is inestimable.

Funding from our generous donors enables our members to regain their dignity and quality of life through social, sporting and educational programmes, conducted alongside their rehabilitation.. We invite and encourage you to visit our centres when you are in Israel so that you can see first-hand how vital our facilities are.

THE DUCHENNE RESEARCH FUND

The Duchenne Research Fund has the simple vision that, through our work, a cure will be found for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).

The Duchenne Research Fund, formerly known as The GM Trust, was established in May 2007 to identify and fund research into finding a cure for this devastating disease.

The Duchenne Research Fund exists to find and fund research that will bring a cure for DMD closer, improving the conditions of those living with DMD along the way. We are committed to looking at any possible route for such a cure and will not stop looking until a cure is found. We will facilitate and fund new research into minority strains of DMD and focus on the exceptions of the condition with the belief that this will hold the key to a cure.

The Duchenne Research Fund will continue to raise the funds needed to facilitate this process.

JEWISH BLIND AND DISABLED

Jewish Blind & Disabled is a completely independent charity that is dedicated to ensuring that neither physical disability nor impaired vision becomes a barrier to living an independent life. We alone in the Jewish community provide specially designed mobility apartments with 24/7 on site support for adults aged 18+. Our tenants range from their early 20’s, and encompass a wide spectrum of disabilities including multiple sclerosis, Huntingdon’s, cerebral palsy, rheumatoid arthritis and motor neurone disease amongst others.

Over 40 years experience means that every aspect of each of our buildings is planned with unparalleled attention to detail. This, combined with the security of house managers being on site 24 hours a day/seven days a week, means that tenants and their families can enjoy their independence safe in the knowledge that support is always on hand if required transforming

Having their own apartment means that our tenants can enjoy the best of both worlds- the privacy that this affords them whilst also benefiting from the wide range of activities and warm community atmosphere that prevails in the attractive communal lounges and beautiful, well-maintained gardens.

Thus a key to one of our apartments is literally the key to a new future for all concerned.

Our latest development in Bushey Heath, Herts. is due to open in 2012 providing an additional 41 state-of-the-art mobility apartments but unfortunately there will still be many on our waiting lists still hoping to receive their personal key to independence.

JCCV

THE JCC FOR LONDON
The Jewish Community Centre (JCC) movement was founded over 150 years ago in the United States. Today, there are over 1,100 JCCs worldwide. The JCC for London aims to provide Jews with a lasting sense of community and to promote the best of Jewish values. At its core is building Jewish life, through Jewish cultural, social, educational, and recreational activities. Social action is also central to the JCC movement – helping those in need both within and outside the Jewish community. Most JCCs have their own building where they hold extensive programmes of activities, JCC Ventures our sister organisation, is currently constructing a 35,000 sq ft state-of-the-art Jewish Community Centre building on the Finchley Road in Hampstead.

WHO IS THE JCC FOR?
The JCC for London celebrates Jewish culture. It is also inclusive: it’s for anyone interested in Jewish life and our programme of Jewish activities. It is not a place of worship, nor linked to any particular group, movement or synagogue. It’s a gateway into all things Jewish: from Jewish food to sport to Jewish arts to debate, with activities that emphasise the Jewish tradition of helping those in need. It provides an opportunity for Jews of all ages to meet other Jews; it’s a way of building a strong Jewish future for us and for our children through Jewish activities. The JCC actively welcomes observant and secular Jews, mixed partnerships, and non-Jews. Indeed, an important part of our vision is to create better understanding between different faiths and cultures.

OUR PROGRAMME
Our cutting-edge programme of events is the soul of the JCC. Applauded for its compelling and original Jewish content, highlights include a sell-out Israeli rock concert at the Southbank Centre, the Kvetch Choir, a podcast in association with The Guardian, yoga and cycling activities, children’s events, political debate and a series of social action projects. The JCC aims to hold up a 21st century lens to Jewish life, and to build a community of artists and performers. Many of our groundbreaking commissions interweave Jewish beliefs and values with those of other cultures.

JEWISH CHILD'S DAY

At Jewish Child’s Day we believe that no Jewish child, anywhere in the world, should live in poverty or need.

Jewish Child’s Day helps Jewish children in need of special care in the UK, Europe, Israel and throughout the rest of the world. Our mission is to make a positive change to the lives of disadvantaged Jewish children wherever they are. We support over 12,000 Jewish children in need every year who suffer from physical and emotional disabilities, neglect, abuse and financial hardship.

Jewish Child’s Day provides the tangible items required – wheelchairs, life-saving medical equipment, hearing equipment and special educational materials to name but a few. Although often receiving low priority, these are the items that can give a disadvantaged child the opportunity of a better quality of life.

As a grant giving charity, we allocate funds to small charities working to improve the lives of these children. Without Jewish Child’s Day, you simply would never hear of most of these life changing causes as these charities lack a voice to be able to promote their cause in the UK. Jewish Child’s Day is their voice, and our support makes a huge impact. Every grant we give targets and improves the lives of Jewish children in need.

Jewish Child’s Day constantly monitors current requests and priorities, ensuring that all funds available are used to maximum effect, whilst strictly vetting each organisation. We rely entirely on voluntary donations  to fund our vital work.’

• group homes for people with learning disabilities
• residential care home for people with physical disabilities

LANGDON

Langdon is a special charity, enabling young Jewish adults, aged 18+, with mild to moderate learning difficulties to live the independent lives they deserve.

Many of the difficulties that Langdon people face are not obvious from the outside. This means their abilities may actually be their biggest disability as others fail to understand why they may struggle counting their change at the corner shop, or making small talk in the queue.

Whilst the wider world doesn’t give our people a second thought, Langdon recognises their unique needs, supporting them to gain educational qualifications, employment, to live in their own homes, develop real friendships and to make an active contribution back into the community.

Langdon currently offers support to over 100 young adults through Langdon College, our specialist residential college in Manchester, and Langdon Community our supported living facilities in Edgware and Manchester. However, 2012 sees Langdon expand, as it opens the doors to ‘The Quadrant’. Situated in Edgware, this is a 24/7 social and recreation hub, open to both Langdon residents and those with learning disabilities in the wider Jewish community. The building provides a space for social activities, adult education and employment training, as well as housing for several of our residents in specially built flats.

Langdon provides a helping hand, allowing our young adults to lead the lives they and their families never thought possible.

They were always real people, Langdon gave them real lives.

LANIADO

Laniado Hospital, founded in 1974, is the only hospital in Netanya, northern Israel, serving the largest catchment area in the Sharon region. It serves a burgeoning population of more than 450,000 people from the surrounding areas where there is no easy access to medical care.

Laniado is a hospital founded and operating on the principle that compassion, kindness and sympathy are the threads with which we can bind all humanity, irrespective of race or religion. We do not ask of our patients faith, we ask how we can best care for them when they are at their most vulnerable. Our multicultural staff – Arabs and Jews working side by side – are chosen not only for their expertise, but also for their belief in the respect for all life.

Our hospital is a symbol of what can be achieved when human beings come together with understanding and sympathy. Laniado is a haven of peace for today and a beacon of hope for tomorrow.

Functioning not just as a Community Healthcare Facility, Laniado Hospital also operates a full-scale Medical Campus that includes a Nursing School and two Geriatric-Care Centres, diligently maintaining the highest standards of medical practice. The only hospital in Israel with a no-strike policy, Laniado Hospital turns away no one in need of care, regardless of ability to pay, religious affiliation or ethnic group. For these reasons, and because of the real sense of tolerance and coexistence that it has brought to the region of Netanya, it is a unique and very special place.

Laniado is a non-profit hospital that runs an annual budget of $75 million. It receives no government funding for development, new equipment or research and depends on the generosity of benefactors to meet these needs. That is why the UK Friends of Laniado was established – to ensure that a global collective would join the efforts of this precious hospital that does so much to heal people, mend spirits and build bridges.

MYISRAEL

Established four years ago, myisrael is an innovative funding organisation that raises money for small projects in Israel that have had little previous UK support.

Our projects help lots of different groups including children with special needs, families struggling financially, women in crisis, the Ethiopian community and more.   Each project meets our strict selection criteria and is working in an innovative way to change lives for the better. myisrael builds a relationship with each project to make sure that they are making the best of their resources.  Our donors can choose an individual project to support or give to our general fund, which is allocated quarterly. Whether you are a b’nai mitzvah child initiating a tzedakah project, an anniversary couple looking to support those less fortunate in lieu of gifts or a community searching for a way to engage with Israel, myisrael can guide you to a project that needs your help. We are committed to our promise that 100% of all donations to projects go directly to them, with no deductions for our administration costs, which are covered by a handful of donors who give specifically for that purpose.  We also invite you to visit a project anytime you are in Israel so that you can see firsthand what they do. At myisrael, we believe that giving should be personal, responsible and direct.

NIGHTINGALE

Nightingale cares for older people of the Jewish Community. We are one of the longest established independent Jewish caring charities in the UK and have been looking after members of the community for over 170 years. Our residents have a wide range of needs and our aim is to offer the right level of care in an appropriate setting. We provide residential care, nursing care, dementia care and respite/short stay care. We provide a home for life, caring for residents from the moment they arrive and for the rest of their lives, no matter how much their mental or physical health may deteriorate.

Two thirds of Nightingale residents have dementia in some form. This ratio is very much in line generally with the rest of the care sector in the UK. Nightingale is proud of its specialist dementia unit which caters for the sensitive nature of the condition appropriately.

Activities at Nightingale are designed to meet the physical, emotional and cultural needs of all our residents and we endeavour at all times to keep both the body and mind active. Nightingale staff, residents and volunteers contribute towards a self-sufficient Jewish community. Each year 1000s of hours of volunteering take place within

Nightingale. Our volunteers range from the age of 18 to over 80 and they share a keen interest in improving the quality of life for older people.

Nightingale never turns anyone away on grounds of finance. As a not-for-profit organisation, we rely on the generous support received from our friends and supporters.

THE MOVEMENT FOR REFORM JUDAISM

Reform Judaism is living Judaism. It is a religious philosophy rooted in nearly four millennia of Jewish tradition, whilst actively engaged with modern life and thought. This means both an uncompromising assertion of eternal truths and values and an open, positive attitude to new insights and changing circumstances. It is a living evolving faith that Jews of today and tomorrow can live by.

In this spirit, the Movement for Reform Judaism supports individuals, rabbis and synagogues in 42 communities across the UK to meet their spiritual, social and educational needs and to reach out to new members and the wider community. It is inclusive and welcomes anyone on a Jewish journey of any sort.

RSY-Netzer our national youth movement runs events and activities for over 800 10-21 year olds every year including summer and winter camps, day camps and Israel Tour. Jeneration is the Movement for Reform Judaism's initiative for students and young adults.  Jeneration’s work beyond university campuses places a particular emphasis on work with those in mixed-faith relationships.

RESPITE KIDS

Respite Kids was founded in 2006 in memory of Samara Katz who was born with severe cerebral palsy and passed away at a tragically young age. She touched many people in her short life, despite her difficult circumstances.

Parents with special needs children have an extremely difficult task, with the complexity of care often leaving them not only exhausted but a financially drained. Many parents in the Jewish community struggle to care for their children in their own home, with some forced to send their children to overseas institutions.

All these families are a very special part of our community, our objective is to get them the respite care they require to look after their children at home. We do this by running weekends away and providing emergency respite funding. We also run fun and exciting parties around the chagim, ensuring that these special children feel and are part of our community.

US CHESED

The US Chesed Bursary Fund has been created to enable young people to attend the Tribe Israel Tour for year 11 pupils, alongside residential and day programmes in the UK for younger members of the community. The US Chesed Bursary Fund recognises that some of our community struggle to find the means to allow their child to join these activities.

Spending time with Jewish friends in social settings is essential to establishing lifelong Jewish connections. Money raised will directly enable a young person to visit Israel, which is central to their Jewish identity and education or to attend Tribe’s other programmes. The US Chesed Bursary Fund enables us to reach out to young Jews, whatever their economic circumstances, giving them positive experiences. They have come from many countries, many cultures, and many speak different languages..
But they are all considered “at risk” due to having suffered from abuse, neglect, poverty, anti-Semitism or lack of education.

Our villages provide these children with a home away from home, with a surrogate family, with love, care, an education… and a future.
