Arts Therapies for Children
Arts Therapies for Children (ATFC) was set up as a registered charity in 2016 following a three year pilot scheme at one of Europe's largest Jewish Primary Schools. The idea behind ATFC is to provide in-school art therapy for children who have emotional or behavioural difficulties. Providing therapy at the school enables the therapist to work with children's parents and teachers in order to support the child as much as possible, in an environment they feel safe in. Children tend to love Art therapy. It provides them with a time and space to express themslves and feel emotionally supported.
Why support ATFC?
Working with children in schools, we came to realise that there were so many children who were going through very hard times with little to no support. The issues that these kids face on a daily basis would be difficult for an adult, and they would have to brave it alone. Divorce, death of a parent or sibling, bullying etc. That's where ATFC comes in. Children don't need to face these insurmountable burdens alone. They are paired with a trained, registered and experienced arts therapist who helps them make sense of their mostly troubled lives and move on to become fully functioning, healthy adults. Why support ATFC? Because we simply cannot do it without the very generous financial support from people like you.
How much does it cost ATFC to provide the service they do?
Each child we support gets 30 sessions of therapy, and each session costs £50*. So every child we fund costs ATFC £1500 per year.
Currently we are supporting 51 children across 14 primary schools each week. With this in mind, we need to raise £76,500 pa just to maintain our current clients.
Due to the dire needs for the support from ATFC, we have at least 20 more children on our urgent waiting list with many more others being added all the time. Just these 20 children alone increases our total funds needed by £30,000.
*on average ATFC subsidize 40% of this amount. The rest comes from schools & parents (if they are able to contribute)
